Fit To Be Tied: Rope Sandal Styles With Flair

Hello and welcome to my blog! I'm Marlene Washington and I am what my friends often call a gift psychic. I'm not actually a psychic, but I have a knack for guessing exactly what my friends would love to see appear under the Christmas tree. I spend so much time perusing both online and offline stores that I can think of the perfect gift for anyone on my list. Around Christmas dinner, my family unanimously decided that I shouldn't keep my shopping secrets to myself, so I decided to share them with the whole world through my weblog. Please enjoy!

Fit To Be Tied: Rope Sandal Styles With Flair

In ancient Egypt, sandals were made of various materials, including woven plant fibers for the impoverished and leather for the rich. However, nowadays rope sandals are considered chic, especially with all of the different ways that rope is incorporated into the design of sandals and the styles of sandals. The following examples are just a few of the styles and ways in which rope is trending in footwear.

Espadrilles

You simply say the word "espadrilles," and you immediately picture high-platform sandals on the feet of flamenco dancers. The Spanish have long used rope to create these uniquely cultural symbols of footwear, and right now, espadrilles are one of the hottest shoe styles under the sun. You cannot walk into a shoe store without seeing several different pairs, and there are even espadrilles for baby feet! They take some getting used to if you have never strapped on an espadrille and tried walking around in them, but if you are "height-challenged," you may find that you love the height boost espadrilles give you.

Gladiators

Instead of the usual leather bits that hold gladiator sandals on your feet, rope is in its place. There are even more masculine versions of the gladiator sandal using rope so that the guys do not feel left out of this foot fashion trend. They look best with shorter shorts and skirts so that you can see the detailing in the rope wraps around the lower leg.

Rough Ballet Style

This type of rope shoe takes the grace of the ballet dancer's toe shoes and mixes it with the gladiator style. You get to decide how the ropes will crisscross your feet, ankles, and lower leg, giving you the ability to get creative with how the shoes will be tied. Keep it low around the ankle like a ballet dancer, or crisscross it all the way up to just under your knee before tying it in front or behind your leg. The rope used is very soft and will not rub your skin or leave a mark.

Sport Sandal

The traditional sport sandal gets a slight makeover. Instead of bands of leather creating a vented box over your foot and buckling behind your ankle, ropes are used to crisscross back and forth over the foot, looping through either canvas or metal loops before crossing behind your ankle to be tied there. You can also tie it in front of your ankle if you would rather have a sort of flip-flop style.
