Caring For Your New Military Boots

Hello and welcome to my blog! I'm Marlene Washington and I am what my friends often call a gift psychic. I'm not actually a psychic, but I have a knack for guessing exactly what my friends would love to see appear under the Christmas tree. I spend so much time perusing both online and offline stores that I can think of the perfect gift for anyone on my list. Around Christmas dinner, my family unanimously decided that I shouldn't keep my shopping secrets to myself, so I decided to share them with the whole world through my weblog. Please enjoy!

While many individuals may assume that military boots are only useful for those that are in the army, navy or air force, there are many professionals and activities that could be well-served by these high-quality boots. However, those that are not familiar with owning or wearing mukluk military style boots may not understand what to look for when buying these boots or what they should expect from owning them.

Opt For Insulated Mukluks

If you will regularly be spending large amounts of time outside during cold or wet weather, investing in insulated boots can be well worth the costs. Feet that become extremely cold can be at risk fo develop frostbite, and they can go numb enough to make it difficult for individuals to safely walk. Having insulated military mukluks will keep your feet protected against the worst of the cold.

Regularly Clean The Boots

Your mukluk boots will become surprisingly dirty due to mud, water, and other substances getting on them. While these substances may not seem very damaging to the boots, they can weaken and permanently discolor the fabric or leather on the exterior of these boots. When cleaning the boots, you should use a soft bristle scrubber to gently remove any materials that may have gotten on the boots. It is important to avoid machine washing these boots as this can be extremely damaging to the heel and soul of the boots.

Moisturize Leather Components Of The Boots

Most types of mukluk boots will be made of leather. However, leather can become extremely brittle if the natural oils in it rub off or evaporate. Periodically moisturizing the leather components of your boots will prevent them from cracking and splitting due to this brittleness. Before applying moisturizer to your boots, they should be thoroughly cleaned as dirt and dust on the boots can absorb the moisturizer before it reaches the leather.

Invest In Odor Neutralizing Powders

Due to the design of boots, they can be prone to developing foul odors as a result of lack of circulation. Applying odor neutralizing powders to the interior of the boots can help to eliminate these smells. For the best results, these powders will need to remain in the boots for at least several hours before being removed. As a result, you might want to consider applying this treatment during the overnight hours or on the weekend so that it will not interfere with your ability to use your boots for work.
