The Tools You Need To Clean Up Your Neighborhood

Hello and welcome to my blog! I'm Marlene Washington and I am what my friends often call a gift psychic. I'm not actually a psychic, but I have a knack for guessing exactly what my friends would love to see appear under the Christmas tree. I spend so much time perusing both online and offline stores that I can think of the perfect gift for anyone on my list. Around Christmas dinner, my family unanimously decided that I shouldn't keep my shopping secrets to myself, so I decided to share them with the whole world through my weblog. Please enjoy!

The Tools You Need To Clean Up Your Neighborhood

It really does take a community to keep a neighborhood looking great. If you want your neighborhood to look nice, you need to actively participate in picking up trash and keeping the streets and sidewalks clean. Before you just go up and start picking up trash, make sure that you have the right tools.

Wear Sturdy Gloves

When you go outside to pick up trash, you want to make sure that you protect yourself first. You don't know what type of trash you are going to encounter, which is why you should wear thick, sturdy gloves that will not be punctured or break easily. Don't wear thin disposable rubber gloves; they could easily rip and be punctured, exposing you to dirt and other substances you don't want on or in your skin.

Put on a High Visibility Vest

If you are going to be picking up trash, you want to make sure that people can see you. The best way to ensure that people can see you is by putting on a high-visibility vest. You can pick up an outside orange work vest at most home improvement and even auto parts stores. Make sure that you are visible and easy to spot before you go outside to pick up trash.

Use a Trash Pick-Up Tool

Next, use a trash pick-up tool. Trash pick-up tools have long handles and grabbers on the end that make it easy to pick up trash.

Using a trash pick-up tool has numerous advantages. To start with, using a pick-up tool puts distance between yourself and the trash, reducing the chance that you will come into direct contact with something you don't want to touch.

Using a pick-up tool can also make it easier to reach hard-to-reach trash. Trash that has blown into plants will be easier to grab. If any trash has blown into a berry bush with thorns, or into poison ivy, you can still retrieve the trash without hurting yourself.

Additionally, using a trash pick-up tool will reduce the strain on your body from leaning down and picking up so much trash.

Use High-Quality Trash Bags

The last thing you want to happen when you are picking up trash is to have your trash bag rip. Do not use cheap trash bags when picking up trash in your neighborhood. Invest in heavy-duty, high quality trash bags that are not designed to rip and are designed to stretch to accommodate trash.

Don't overfill the trash bag. Once it starts to feel heavy, put it down for the pick-up crew or take it back to your home. Overfilling your trash bags will strain your body and could lead to a bigger mess.

When you help clean-up your neighborhood, make sure that you do it in a safe manner. Wear heavy-duty work gloves, use a trash pick-up tool, use high-quality trash bags, and wear a vest that makes you easy to see.
